Chaplin not only stood on the chair, Ad Club style,
but he kept right on up and climbed onto the table.
When it was quiet enough for him to be heard he spoke.
,This is the first time I ever made a speech,‘
he said, ,and naturally I feel a little diffident. Your chairman
has called upon me to speak for the children. I wish
I could express the thoughts of the children, but the best that
I can say is, let‘s all buy Liberty bonds and get it over
here.‘ He clambered down while the gathering cheered and
