„The Immigrant“ Is Next Chaplin Film
„The Immigrant“ has been chosen as the title of the next
Chaplin-Mutual Special. (...) Chaplin‘s role in this
forthcoming offering is different from anything that he has
attempted in the past and is sure to win him just
as much praise – to make just as many millions laugh.

„Not me“
Editorial content. „Charlie Would Make
Huns Laugh, He Says
Charlie Chaplin is ready to go to war and take a chance
at making the Germans laugh themselves into defeat.
He was telling today how he registered.
,Claim exemption?‘ the register clerk asked him.
,Not me,‘ was Charlie‘s rejoinder. ,I haven‘t
a defect except my walk, and if I exhibited that they‘d
only laugh.‘
Charlie wanted to get registration card No. 13 in his
precinct, but was nosed out.“
Fritz Hirzel, Chaplins Schatten.
Bericht einer Spurensicherung. Zürich 1982:
„Chaplin an die Front? „Not for me! Not for me!“ soll
er zu Milt Gross gesagt haben, nicht ohne
hinzuzufügen, er würde eher ins Gefängnis gehen,
als da hineingeraten zu wollen; eher würde
er sich seine Hand abhauen lassen, als bei einer
solchen Sache mitzumachen.“
