Photo. „In Ireland they term Charlie Chaplin the greatest cinema
comedian in the films. The management of a picture
house in Dublin held a competition for Chaplin imitators, of which
there are hundreds. Each entrant was required to give
an impersonation before a camera. When all had done so, the film
was shown in the Dublin theater, and the audience was
asked to pick the winner.

the test stood by to watch the newcomers perform. It was
really more fun for them than for the unhappy contestant of the
moment, as they were free to comment and to criticise.“
