„Mention of censorship recalls an amusing experience
that happened at Birmingham the other day.
The Essanay film, Charlie, the Perfect Lady, was being shown
at a local hall and one or two of the patrons protested
to the authorities and demanded its withdrawal on grounds
of indecency. Next day the magistrates saw the
production privately and found not the slightest excuse for
prohibiting its exhibition. On the contrary, they paid
a delicate compliment to the ,harmless humor´ of Charlie.“
Redaktioneller Inhalt. In der Rubrik British Notes
findet sich eine Nachbemerkung zu A Woman aus
Großbritannien. „Da wir gerade von Zensur reden, sei ein
amüsantes Erlebnis erwähnt, das sich in diesen
Tagen in Birmingham zugetragen hat. Der Essanay Film
Charlie, the Perfect Lady wurde in einer lokalen Hall
gezeigt und ein oder zwei Kunden protestierten gegenüber
den Behörden und forderten seinen Rückzug aufgrund
der Unanständigkeit. Tags darauf sahen die Magistraten die
Produktion privat und fanden nicht den leisesten
Anlass seine Vorführung zu verbieten. Sie sprachen im
Gegenteil dem ,harmlosen Humor´von Charlie
ein delikates Kompliment aus.“
