In a box. No sooner had Charles Spencer Chaplin introduced
Paulette Goddard as his wife, during the New York
premiere of his latest picture, The Great Dictator, than a tidal
wave of divorce rumors swept the country. We decided
to get to the bottom of this gossip and called upon Hollywood‘s
best authority, Louella O. Parsons, who was appearing
then at Loew‘s State in New York, to get the answers from the
stars themselves. Being a good newspaperwoman,
Miss Parsons didn‘t fail us and here‘s her story which she
got straight from Charlie and Paulette. – Editor‘s note.
,I HAVE no intention of divorcing Paulette Goddard,‘
said Charlie Chaplin. ,No such thought has ever entered my
head.‘
That was Charlie‘s answer when I told him that all
New York was buzzing with rumors that his marriage with
Paulette was about to be dissolved by mutual
consent, and asked him whether it was true that he planned
