Line in front of the Liverpool Street Railroad station, where Henry
Thornton, manager of the Great Eastern Railway
and himself an American, offered to cash credit notes and
checks up to $50 each for stranded Americans.
That his offer was accepted with alacrity is evidenced
by this photograph.
