& THE RIALTO. – Spectacular motion pictures of Admiral
Sir John Jellicoe‘s grand fleet in the North Sea will
be the added feature of next week‘s program at The Rialto.
These films are owned by the British Government
and were taken under the personal supervision of Charles Urban, perfector of the Kinemacolor process. They show
actual sea fighting, with the firing of tremendous broadsides,
launching of torpedoes, submerging of submarines
and other impressive and authentic activities of the squadron
which is maintaining Britain‘s supremacy at sea.
Bessie Barriscale will appear as a sort of modern dryad
in „Bawbs‘ o‘ Blue Ridge,“ a role which gives her
sparkling personality full play. Charlie Chaplin in „Behind the
Screen,“ beginning Monday, will provoke laughter
of the compulsory sort in a film which is said to be the funniest
he has turned out in months. The Rialto orchestra,
which has established itself as one of New York‘s musical
institutions, will play Goldmark‘s „Sakuntala“ as an
overture. Jeanne Maubourg of the Metropolitan Opera Company
will sing an aria from „Samson and Delilah“ and Elsa
Diemer, the young soprano recently introduced to the public
by Mr. Rothapfel, will sing a selection from „Tosca.“
Mr. Rothapfel‘s „Literary Digest of the Screen“ will have the latest
news in picture form and there will be the usual
educational feature to balance this exceptional program.
