      (Tri-Stone Comedy – Two reels)

      One of the earlier Chaplin comedies, revelling in broad

slapstick, of a sort that is popular any time, has been

retitled with a lot of ,jazz‘ lines and reissued by Tri-Stome.

Charlie‘s adventures in a bake-shop provide the fun.

It is rough, and sticky, with plenty of bread dough in unusual

places. It is much more obvious than Chaplin‘s

up-to-date productions, but will be highly amusing to

slapstick fans. – M. K.

      Tri-Stone Issues „Dough and Dynamite,“ Its First Revival

      of Keystone Comedies of Fragrant Memory

      Those who have followed Charles Chaplin from his

screen beginnings – and who has not? – will have

keen interest in examining „Dough and Dynamite,“ a revival

of the two-part Keystone comedy now being

distributed by Tri-Stone. (...)

      Ten years ago, which is our guess as to the approximate

birthday of „Dough and Dynamite,“ slapstick was

at its roughest. Practically all of the action was physical,

there being little recourse to the mental or to facial

expression for conveying to the spectator the trend of the

very thin plot.

      Viola Dana, jener amerikanische Filmstar, der auch

bei uns so schnell ein Publikumsliebling geworden

ist, wird hier in einem allem Anschein nach uralten Film mit

Wild-West-Einschag gezeigt, sie hat kaum Gelegenheit,

ihr wirkliches Können zu zeigen. Es handelt sich um einen

jener Dutzendfilme, bei denen sich eine kritische

Würdigung nicht lohnt und die lediglich gerade noch annehmbare

Unterhaltungskost sind.

      Eine mäßige Fix- und Fox-Komödie, und ein nicht mehr

ganz junger Chaplin-Film Chaplin backt mit Dynamit

vervollständigen das Weihnachtsprogramm des U. T. am Kurfürstendamm.                                                                  –y.“
