One of the biggest and unquestionably most attractive

Sullivan and Considine vaudeville bills that has ever

occupied the stage of the Empress Theater, will open with the

usual matinee tomorrow, headed by Fred Karno‘s

splendid company of London comedians, including the famous

„souse“ Charles Chapman in Karno‘s latest London

Music hall success The Wow Wows.

The Wow Wows is built solely for funmaking purposes

and as usual is written about the ,souse‘ and the

incidents that befall him while he is being initiated into a London

secret society. The Wow Wows comes with the reputation

of containing more laughs than did Mr. Karno‘s Night in an English Music Hall, and has succeeded in breaking attendance

records wherever it has appeared. Mr. Chapman appears

as Archibald, and what this particular secret society

hands to ,Archie‘ should furnish enough fun to measure

up to all of the specifications of a laughing riot.

„Some 600 or more persons at yesterdays‘s matinee“

Editorial content. „There have been all varieties

of comedy bills – good, fair and bad – at the Empress

within the past few months, but this week Manager

Worley need have no fear of any requests at the box office for

money refund. One act on the bill which opened

yesterday afternoon is worth double the price of admission

if one compares the money paid out with the number

of laughs received in return.

And this happy state of affairs is all due to The Wow Wows

– whatever they are. The act might just as well have

been called by any other name, but it isn‘t the name that

counts – it‘s the act itself. You snicker at the absurd

costumes, you holler at the antics of the players, and you

almost scream your head off when you hear them

talk. If the old saying. ,Laugh and grow fat,‘ has a grain of truth

in it, some 600 or more persons at yesterdays‘s matinee

have taken on weight.“ (...)
