„Straight into a telegraph pole“

Editorial content. „FLASHES.

      STARS MEET ACCIDENTS.

      WELL-KNOWN PLAYERS FLIRT WITH DEATH.

      By Grace Kingsley.

Yesterday revealed a perfect chapter of accidents

in the motion-picture world, two of which might

easily have resulted in removing from midst a duo of our most

popular players, viz., Gladys Brockwell, Fox star,

and Edna Purviance, Charlie Chaplin‘s leading woman.“ (...)

„It was nearly a miracle which saved the life

of Edna Purviance yesterday afternoon, when, her car being

by a street car of the Hollywood line, on Hollywood

boulevard, she and her machine were shunted swiftly into

a telegraph pole and her car demolished. Miss

Purviance was bowling along in her car, when the street car

struck her. She attempted to put on the brakes,

but the force of the impact drove her machine straight into

a telegraph pole. The front of the car was smashed,

but Miss Purviance, though badly shaken up, escaped

without a scratch. She went home at once,

but expects to be at work this morning at the studio.“
