„Safely installed in the Strand vault“

Editorial content. „Holds to Agreement

      Manager Edel Insists on Showing

      Chaplin Film at the Strand

Manager Edel of the Strand and the First National

Exhibitors Circuit officials are having a merry little argument over

the pre-release showing of Charlie Chaplin‘s

new comedy Shoulder Arms at the Strand theatre.

It appears that when the influenza epidemic showed

signs of assuming serious proportions in New York

Manager Edel requested a postponement of the Shoulder Arms

booking which did not meet with the approval of First

National. The situation was reversed, however, last Friday

when the non-distribution order was decided upon and

Ralph Clark, manager of the First National exchange, asked

Mr. Edel to return the print of the Chaplin film. This, the

Strand manager declined to do on the ground that he had

already started an advertising campaign and had

a contract for the picture which a few days previously the

First National did not wish to alter.

As it stands now it appears certain that the Shoulder Arms

print, safely installed in the Strand vault, will be screened

next Sunday as per schedule.“

Strand Theatre, Broadway & 47th Street, New York.

Shoulder Arms has a pre-release presentation at the Strand

Theatre, starting Sunday, October 20, 1918,

Chaplin‘s film is released by First National October 27, 1918.
