Film Comedian Must Pay ex-Wife Close to Two Hundred
Thousand; She Tells of Life of Slights.
Mrs. Mildred Harris Chaplin, wife of Charlie Chaplin,
famous film comedian, was granted a divorce by
Judge York yesterday afternoon. Mr. Chaplin was not present,
but Attorney Arthur Wright was in court to protect his
interests if an attack was made on the property agreement
entered into between Mr. and Mrs. Chaplin. The court
approved the agreement, which provided that $50,000 should
be paid Mrs. Chaplin immediately and $57,000 within
a year. It is understood that all told Mrs. Chaplin will receive
approximately $200,000 from the settlement.
A condition attached to the agreement is that she shall
not use the name of Chaplin professionally.“ (...)
