& Associated First National, the lively bell ringer of the
industry, has rung out again with a fine clangor
of the showman‘s bells. This time it‘s Charlie Chaplin‘s
„The Kid“ and although the price is high so is the
attraction and the money to be made therefrom can be
counted without the aid of a corpse of experts
in figures.

From New York came a report that the meeting was
for the purpose of submitting a proposition to the
directors for the settlement of the controversy between
First National and Charles Chaplin over his feature
production, „The Kid.“
As usual, the rumors from various sources did
not agree.

Charlie Chaplin is to resume production almost
immediately, according to a statement issued
by the comedian in New York last week. He has been
in that city for many weeks negotiating for the
sale of his last production, „The Kid.“

Says He Will Not Retire –Leaves For Coast Monday
to Finish 1st National Contract
Charlie Chaplin broke his long silence yesterday and
issued a statement in which he announced his
intention of starting work on a new picture as soon
as he reaches the coast the end of next week.
Nathan Burkan, Chaplin‘s attorney stated last night
that Chaplin plans to start work immediately
in order to wind up hist First National contract.
Here is Chaplin‘s statement:
,The recent rumors that have been spread broadcast
in this city and abroad regarding my retirement
from my business and never hereafter to produce pictures
are grossly unfounded. Any such statement written
or spoken are without authenticity and without authority
from me.
,The fact of the matter is that i am leaving New York
on Monday, Nov. 22 for California and immediately
upon my arrival there, will begin work on a new picture.‘“
