If Miss Harris had no other claim to fame than being

Mrs. Charlie Chaplin, that alone would make her

of international interest. Mildred was born in Cheyenne,

Wyoming, and started her screen career as a child

in Thomas Ince‘s „On the Firing Line“ in the old Kay-Bee

days. After that Miss Harris was with Ince

and Griffith, ultimately reaching stardom at Universal.

Film Comedian Said to Have Compromised

      by Paying Wife $200,000.

Los Angeles, Cal., Nov. 13. Mildred Harris Chaplin has

been granted a divorce from Charles Chaplin in the Superior

Court here.

Mr. Chaplin, whom Mrs. Chapin charged with cruelty,

was not in court, but was represented by attorneys.

It was stated a property settlement involving about

$200,000 has been made out of court and an

agreement reached by which Mrs. Chaplin would not use

the name of Chaplin professionally.

      Big Second Act Played Here;

      Gotham Audience Applauded.

The Chaplin domestic troubles were aired in this city

in September when Chaplin, Mrs. Chaplin and their

respective attorneys and aids arrived here and played the

town for one week, presenting episodes both comic

and dramatic.

Mrs. Chaplin had sued for a divorce in the State of

California, charging cruelty and non support. When

here she said she had changed her mind, saying she didn‘t

want a divorce – all she wanted was a fifty-fifty split

on all of Chaplin‘s resources, said to be $3,000,000. Then

there was a get-together meeting of the entire cast –

with the principals absent.

Mrs. Chaplin‘s attorney gave Chaplin thirty-six hours

to come across, saying it would attach his property

after that on the ground that he intended leaving for England

never to return. Mrs. Chaplin‘s attorney announced

she had had a nervous collapse. Chaplin‘s attorney announced

his latest picture, The Kid, valued at $1,000,000,

would be released as soon as it reached New York and

that Mrs. Chaplin would get nothing from it.

      Chaplin disappeared, Mrs. Chaplin disappeared,

the attorneys became reticent.“
