„He invents new situations constantly“
Editorial content. „Chaplin in a Pawnshop
In Newest Mutual Film.
Another Charlie Chaplin Mutual feature will be
shown simultaneously in three Washington theatres shortly –
the Casino, Loew‘s Columbia and the Garden. It is two
reels in length, like the others in the series. Its title is The
Pawnshop. As the title suggests, Charlie appears as
the clerk of a pawnbroker. The surroundings of a pawnshop
give him many possibilities for comedy. He manages
to get a laugh out of the most commonplace of situations.
He invents new situations constantly.
At an advance showing of the film in one Mutual
exchange to a whole roomful of exhibitors, the laughs came
so thick and fast that it was impossible to keep track
of them.
The Pawnshop is the sixth of the series of Chaplin Mutual
specials. The others are The Floorwalker, The Fireman,
The Vagabond, One A. M. and The Count.“
Casino Theatre, 632 F Street NW, Washington, D. C.
Loew´s Columbia Theatre, 12th Street, Washington, D. C.
Garden Theatre, 423 Ninth Street, Washington, D. C.
The Pawnshop is
released by Mutual October 2, 1916.
