& Charlie Chaplin Proves His Ability as a Skater

Charlie Chaplin, so the press agents

tell us, has been trying for some time to capitalize his

extraordinary capability as a skater, and if the

press agents speak truly (pardon for doubting them) he gets

full swing for his talents in „The Rink“ which is being

released in Minneapolis today. The skates Chaplin has to wear

in order to fit his exaggerated shoes have to be

at least eight sizes too big, but that doesn‘t make a bit

of difference to so expert a skater as he. (Again

we are quoting the press agents.)

Edna Purviance, with her trim figure and ability

to do everything on skates from dancing a jig

to turning a somersault, affords Chaplin his opportunity. He uses

Miss Purviance like a rag doll, tossing her hither and

thither throwing her across the rink and in fact putting on a

skating speciality that would get him $300 a week

if he had never done anything in his life but on skating

exhibitions. (We need hardly state that here

we are accepting the authority of the press agents.)

& NEW ASTER.

Charlie Chaplin Chaplinizes again this week at the New

Aster. The new release is called „The Rink.“ Charlie

is cast as a waiter, and after making flirty eyes at the girls,

resenting the way the head waiter wears his mustache,

and playing the dence generally in the restaurant,

he retires, with Edna Purviance, of course, to a skating rink,

and there adding skates to his marvelous feet,

he proceeds to make them funnier than ever. „The Rink“ has

more of a plot than most of the Chaplin comedies.

When Charlie arrives with Edna at the rink they find Edna‘s

pa engaged in a whirling flirtation with an attractive

married woman.
