„Tillie‘s Punctured Romance,“ the six-reel Keystone
masterpiece, which comes to the Palace
Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, December 27, 28 and 29,
is without question the greatest comedy production
ever staged. The picture finishes a four-day run in Oklahoma
City tonight, and reports come from that place that
patrons are not only seeing the film once, but are coming
back two or three times. Mere words fade into
insignificance in an attempted explanation of the many
situations that start you laughing and keep you
laughing from the first scene to the last. Marie Dressler fits
into the Keystone comedy perfectly, and Charles
Chaplin, playing opposite the great star of the legitimate
stage suffers not a whit by comparison. His
marvelous right footed skid is just as funny in the last reel
as in the first. Mabel Normand plays her part
to perfection, as do all the cast, which is quite large.
„Tillie‘s Punctured Romance“ is going to be
the talk of Tulsa next week. Everyone wants to see
it. Moral: Come early and avoid the rush.

„It is beyond description”
Editorial content. „Palace.
Tillie‘s Punctured Romance. When Mack Sennett,
director general of the Keystone Film company,
told some friends that he was producing a six-reel comedy,
they told him to stop kidding. They said it was
impossible to make a six-reel Keystone comedy. Mack Sennett
simply smiled and let them rave on. You see, way
back, in the back of Mack‘s square head he was planning this
six-reel Keystone, his masterpiece, just a little
at a time, arranging a big gripping plot, something that would
hold the attention of the millions who would see it.
Then he burlesqued that big gripping drama, burlesqued
it in the famous Keystone way, until he himself
hardly recognized the story of the original ,dramer.‘
Now for the cast. He must have the
greatest cast of performers ever put into one feature picture.
And here they are, we will let you judge for yourself.
Marie Dessler, the famous legitimate stage comedian,
has the part of Tillie. Charley Chaplin, the
inimitable, the funniest of all screen comedians, has the
part of Charles, the bold bad villain who steals
Tillie from her father, spends all her money, deserts her
while she is in a tango ,stew,‘ for his old love
Mabel, goes back to Tillie when her uncle dies and leaves
her three million dollars, marries her and they
break into high society. Here is where Mr. and Mrs. Vernon
Castle get into the picture. Tillie and Charley
give a tango ball, and of course Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Castle
are invited. They dance several of the newest
dances, and Tillie and Charley attempt the same dances.
Can you imagine Marie Dressler, six-footer, two
hundred pounder, dancing a burlesque tango with skinny,
scrawny indisputably funny Chas. Chaplin. It is
beyond description, one must see the picture to appreciate it.“
