& The Pearl Theater, Hutchinson, Kansas, was badly damaged

by a fire recently which broke out in a pile of rubbish

while the house was being redecorated and remodeled. The

rear of the building was completely destroyed and

the stage setting, fixtures, chairs, etc., were consumed in a fire

which raged for an hour before it could be stopped.

Manager Featherby and his family have apartments above

the theater and he had a narrow escape in rescuing

his wife.

„See Charlie Chaplin in Easy Street

Editorial content. „Uses Fake Camera to Draw Crowds

      R. J. Featherby, manager of the Pearl Theater,

Hutchinson, Kansas, made capital of the curiosity and vanity

of the public to advertise the showing of Charlie Chaplin

in Easy Street at his house.

Mr. Featherby had a man dressed as a cameraman

and carrying a moving picture camera with all the

paraphernalia walk around the business streets of the town.

Selecting a busy corner the cameraman would adjust

his camera with a great deal of by-play, as if he was trying

to conceal what he really was doing, and start to crank.

Of course a crowd would quickly gather, part of them curious

to see just how the camera worked, and part anxious

to get in front of the camera so they would be in the picture.

When they had all become very much interested

in his movements and there was a good crowd the operator

pulled a string and a scroll dropped down over the

lense of the camera, reading: See Charlie Chaplin in Easy

Street at t the Pearl Theater this afternoon and

evening.‘“ (...)
