CHAPLIN MECHANICAL MAN PULLING AUTOMOBILE
TO advertise Charles Chaplin week at the Victoria theatre,
Rochester, New York, Manager John J. Farren uncovered
a clever publicity stunt recently. A mechanical man ten feet high,
much resembling the renowned comedian, pulled
an electrical automobile on which the week‘s pictures were
advertised, through the streets of the city.
The scheme met with great success, as the pictures played
to large audiences at every show. Mr. Farren is one
of the pioneer film men of Rochester, and in the Victoria
runs the largest house in that city. The General and
Universal programs are used, the pictures being changed daily.

& A Mechanical Man.
Memories of „Frank Reed‘s“ steam man of dime novel days
are evoked by the street display of the Victoria theater,
Rochester. The man is used to advertise a C–––––n Week.

& Crude – But Read.
„How to get rid of worms,“ used as an outside page attractor
may not be in the best of taste, but it probably will be read.
The inside of the card shows the picture of a man fishing. It goes
on to explain that he is fishing for live attractions for the
Victoria, Rochester, N. Y. It would have been better had some
other line been used. The reflex on a card like that is not
in favor of the house that appears to a good class of trade. A card
announces the distribution of one thousand Chaplin
balloons from the roof of the theater, each being good for
an admission by „showing the balloon to the ticket
taker with the Chaplin trade mark at the door.“ Wish the house
would send a photo of that remarkable ticket taker.
Never saw one quite like that.
