CHALLENGE ON L-KO FILM COMEDIES
That Universal Program, believing there
is no program on earth that contains comedies which
surpass its new L-KO (Pathe Lehrmann-Billie
Ritchie) comedy releases, makes this broad challenge:
Take „The Manicure Girl,“ L-KO‘s latest
production (released Sunday, December 27th, which gives
you time to make arrangements) and take any
comedy from any other program. PLAY THE TWO OF THEM
THE SAME DAY, placing whichever one you please
first, and get a vote from your audience on which comedy
they liked the most!

& Not Sterling.
This is not Ford Sterling, but Frank B. Payne, operator
of the Crescent theater, Adrian, Mich. He does
ad advertising stunts in his spare time and the manager
suggested a black-face make up, but he
thought he could do better and it is evident that he could.
The only advertisement was a sign on
the back of the coat, „Today – at the Crescent.“

The market is also flooded with old Keystone
comedies. These can be picked up at an average price
of $25 a copy. To meet the demand many of the exchanges
have been purchasing comedies of unknown brands
and clamoring for more. Negatives of these subjects have
been sold for an average price of $150.

& Fred J. Balshofer said the other day, „If you want to do
me a favor please put in the World, for I know
everyone will see it there, that Ford Sterling has not left
this company, and that I am not going to release
under another brand. Someone started those rumors,
and I beg you to stop them.“ He said he wanted
another pair of comedy people, a good man and a woman,
to work in an additional company in a week or so.
