CHARLIE KICKS COPS.
COPS ALSO KICK CHARLIE IN LAUGHABLE FILM.
By Grace Kingsley.
Of course Charlie Chaplin in „Police“ at the Alhambra
this week, pulls people down with the crook of his
cane, kicks and gets kicked and turns out the rest of his little
portmantean of Chaplinisms. But besides this, the
photoplay has more „body“ than most of the Chaplin pictures,
and Charlie as the „simp“ burglar has more chance
for real comedy work than usual.
Edna Purviance as the girl who wants „the burglars to burgle
softly because her mother is ill,“ is more
lovely than usual in carefully arranged dishabille.
Take „Police“ as a whole and it is
one of the best Chaplin releases ever shown.

Charlie Chaplin in „Police,“ has been secured by the
Alhambra, and will be shown starting tomorrow.
It is a brand new picture, the last made b Chaplin for the
Essanay company, and is declared by him to be
one of his best. The action is swift, and the funny man
introduces many novel stunts that are sure
to be received with roars of laughter. Billy Armstrong and
Edna Purviance head the supporting company.

One of Charlie Chaplin‘s principal indoor sports, these days,
is rushing around from one theater to another, looking
at his last Essanay pictures to see what that firm did to them
after he left. He saw himself in „Police“ at the Alhambra
last night, and admitted it was intact.
