Essanay has another comedy, „Police,“ which Chaplin
produced for them. It is being released shortly
to compete with Chaplin‘s pictures under his new contract.

The funny Chaplin comedy, Police, a four reel production
by the Essanay company, will return to the Melbourne
theater Sunday. This is the comedy that Chaplin regards as
his best.
The film shows Chaplin entangled in a burglary –
and a most unusual burglary it proves to be.
Chaplin is seen in his old-time make-up and in many
ludicrous situations. The film is a laugh from
start to finish and is the most successful of the comedies made
while Chaplin was with the Essanay company. (...)

Manager Summerville, who has charge of the Hippodrome
and Melbourne theatres, has come out victorious
in a high-bidding contest for Police, the next Chaplin release. Summerville is determined to be the only Tacoma
manager showing Chaplin pictures, and his determination
cost him a pretty figure, for some of the other movie
men were anxious to sign up Police, also. The picture will open
at the Melbourne Sunday. Summerville says he has
to pay $1,500 for a week‘s run of the film.“
