„Virtually crowded war news off the front pages“

Editorial content. „,Dictator‘ to Play Odeon,

      GB Circuits Simultaneously

Walter Gould, head of the UA‘s foreign department,

yesterday announced details of a most unusual circuit contract

for a picture ever made in Britain. As a result of a deal

concluded by Teddy Carr, joint managing director of UA in England,

the Charles Chaplin picture, The Great Dictator, has

been booked by the Gaumont-British and Odeon Circuits to play

simultaneously in all their theatres, even in those

situations where the circuits are in direct opposition to one

another. The terms are fifty per cent and extended

playing time. Furthermore, these two powerful circuits have

agreed to permit the houses of the ABC circuit, as well

as independents, to play the Chaplin film concurrently if they

with to do so.

This is the first time that all booking barriers

have been broken down, Gould pointed out. Thus, the British

public will see the Chaplin comedy immediately.

The Great Dictator opened in London Wednesday night

and yesterday virtually crowded war news off the

front pages of the London dailies, according to cabled

advices received by UA last night.“

The U. K. premiere of The Great Dictator is

Dec. 16, 1940 at the Prince of Wales Theatre in London.

Prince of Wales Theatre, Coventry Street, London.

It‘s the central London run of the film, concurrent with the

Gaumont Haymarket and the Marble Arch Pavilion.

Gaumont Theatre, Kilburn High Road, London.

Marble Arch Pavilion, Piccadilly Circus, London.
