„And Charlie Chaplin agrees with me“
Editorial content. „Chaplin Is Writing
Story of New York
Charlie Will Play Part of a Drunk, Paulette Goddard a Chorus
Girl in New Film to Show a Changing World
By Louella O. Parsons
HOLLYWOOD, March 11.
PAULETTE GODDARD and Charlie Chaplin came out
to Marsons farm for luncheon Sunday bringing Charles, Jr., who
is taller than his father and such an intelligent lad. Charlie
leaves next week for New York, and he tells me his next story
is going to be laid in the big town, which he has found
so changed he says he hardly knew it.
,I am going to play a drunk,‘ Charlie told me, ,who sees the
world changing before his eyes – a lonely person who,
in his travels, comes across a little chorus girl. Of course, she
doesn‘t know he exists. Paulette will play that chorus
girl, and I am writing the story for her more than for myself.
I have already written forty pages,‘ he said proudly.
I smiled to myself, for knowing how Charlie works, Paulette
will be safe in making the four pictures for which she
is committed. Paulette had given Charles, Jr., $20, and he
is spending it in symphony records. He loathes modern
swing and knows every great composer and all the classical
music so well it would surprise even the great music
lovers.“ (...)
„A Visit to Josef von Sternberg
Chatter in Hollywood: Paulette, Charles Chaplin and
I drove over to see Josef von Sternberg, whose house with the
moat is near Marsons farm. Jo took photographs of both
Paulette and Charlie with that amazing new camera which he has
invented. Later Jo came back to Marsons farm and I had
a long talk with him.
I wonder why he isn‘t directing pictures. I believe he is ripe
to make a great picture, and Charlie Chaplin agrees with
me. Jo showed us an interesting picture of Marlene Dietrich
without a bit of makeup.“
