Charlie Chaplin‘s The Dictators is acquiring sudden
new stature. For the latest title, per official studio bulletin, is The
Great Dictator.
Furthermore Alfred Reeves, the comedian‘s general
manager, deponeth that the first sets for the production are
under construction, the initial one being one of the
largest – an overcrowded tenement district with continental
background – on the back lot of the 5-acre plant.
Several hundred extra people will be used in the scenes
there photographed.
Only cast member chosen, according to the same official
aviso, is Paulette Goddard as leading woman. Technical
staff has been selected, including among others Ira Morgan
and Rollie Totheroh as cameramen, and Russell
Spencer as art director.“
Chief Cameraman Karl Struss is not yet mentioned.
