Stereoscopic cards depicting prospectors at Chilkoot
Pass, Chaplin‘s inspiration for „The Gold Rush.“
Charles Chaplin, My Autobiography: „Then one Sunday
morning, while spending the week-end at the
Fairbankses, I sat with Douglas after breakfast, looking
at stereoscopic views. Some were of Alaska and
the Klondike; one view of the Chilkoot Pass, with a long line
of prospectors climbing up over its frozen mountain.“
& SPANISH NOBLES HONORED
First Arrivals of Duke of Alba‘s Party Dinner Guests
at Fairbanks Home
The first arrivals here of a party of Spanish nobility
were guests at dinner last night at the Beverly
Hills home of Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Fairbanks. The Duke
and Duchesse of Alba – His Grace is also Duke
of Berwick in England – and other members of the party
still were at Santa Barbara, but were expected
to arrive today.
The Marquis de Viana, the Marquis de Coquilla, the
Marquis de Merito, Ricardo L. de Carrigosa and
-
A.Escandou were the arrivals of yesterday, motoring down
from Santa Barbara. The Marquis de Viana and
the Marquis de Coquilla were guests at the Charles Chaplin
home; the other notables stopped at Beverly Hills
Hotel. Chaplin was among those present at the dinner.
