The first comedy of epic proportions has reached
the screen. Charlie Chaplin‘s The Gold Rush
sets a pace for length in the lighter sort of entertainment,
and though it is not all gay by any manner of means,
its premier appeal is for merriment.“ (...)
„To estimate briefly the value of Chaplin‘s latest
contribution to the screen in the brief time
allotted to the writing of this early review is in a sense difficult
if not altogether impossible. The feature is one that
will depend greatly on the reception of audiences day in and
day out. The public which saw it last night evidenced
an immensely enthusiastic appreciation for the film, but
Chaplin has always commanded a high regard
from players and directors, because of his very individual
qualifications, and the fact that he has much
to do in bringing pictures to a place of independence
