„Charlie Chaplin to Begin
The suspense is still on, among the flapper actresses,
as to who will be Charlie Chaplin‘s new leading woman.
Edna Purviance is not definitely settled on, by any means,
especially as she may want to start a new starring
picture before Charlie Chaplin finishes his next comedy.
In the meantime many tests are being taken and
many young hearts are fluttering. It has been whispered
that Charlie is going to choose a brunette.
But brunette or no brunette, Chaplin is going to start
shooting next Monday, according to announcement
from his studio yesterday, though the only member of his
supporting cast so far chosen is Mack Swain. Chaplin
and Swain will make some of their scenes at the beginning
of the week whether a leading lady has then been
settled on or not. But the new leading lady is bound to have
been chosen by the middle of the week.
The new comedy is a burlesque on the gold rush
days in Alaska, and offers many opportunities
to the comical Charlie for laughs when he drives the dog
teams and does the snowshoes. Just where the
snow scenes will be taken isn‘t certain, though it is likely
that a location trip to Canada will be taken.
The Chaplin vehicle will be a five or six-reeler, and will
take some six months in the filming, it is announced.“
