CHOSEN BY CHAPLIN
LITA GREY
Everyone was interested to know who Charlie Chaplin‘s
new leading lady would be. Edna Purviance
made such an impression in the dramatic role she played
in „A Woman of Paris“ that is was not deemed
wise for her to go back to comedy.
Lita Grey, who was finally chosen, is a very different type
physically from Edna, the pulchritudinous blonde.
Lita is a decided brunette, a „native daughter“ of California
and descendant of an old Spanish family. She had
a very small part in „The Kid.“

& Charlie Chaplin Comes Home
Charlie Chaplin, who has been working so hard
that he has been perspiring even amid the snows,
up in the High Sierras at Summit, has returned to Hollywood,
and is now engaged in making interiors for his
current comedy.
It is related that Chaplin is now a shark on the skiis,
though he himself modestly disclaims any particular
accomplishment that way. He admits, however, to being
able to drive a dog-team like a sourdough.

„Under construction on the lot“
Editorial content. „Charlie Chaplin‘s new production will
be revolutionary in comedies. An elaborate
background is being built at the Chaplin studio. An exact
replica of an Alaskan mining town of the vintage
of ’98 is now under construction on the lot. Many finished
sets completely cover the floor space of the interior
stage and others are being erected on the exterior stage.
The company will shortly proceed to location
where the snow scenes will be filmed. The scarcity of snow
in California this winter made Chaplin decide to take
his company to Alaska, but transportation difficulties at this
season may mean that his desire for actual locations
may have to be abandoned.“
