& This Single Cutout Is Enough to Sell Chaplin

This single cutout from a First National lithograph was

sufficient to sell „The Kid“ to the patrons of the

Columbia Theatre, Pittsburgh, backed up by a somewhat crude

banner, clearly hand work.

Chaplin requires announcement, more than selling. He sells himself, but it is necessary to tell that he is there

for sale. This is a point where many managers fail. They think

that a self-seller sells regardless of advertising and

lay off their efforts.

& Schrader Is Manager of Pittsburgh Olympic

      T. H. Schrader, former manager of the Columbia theatre, Pittsburgh, Pa., who was recently forced to give

up his location due to the expiration of his lease, has been

made manager of the Olympic theatre of that city.

Mr. Schader attained much notice through his recent

campaign for „The Kid,“ Charles Chaplin‘s special

feature, distributed by Associated First National Pictures, Inc.,

when he played the feature for five consecutive

weeks at the Columbia.

& COLUMBIA THEATRE, Pittsburgh, Pa. – Both attendance

and box office records broken. The audience voted

it a „knockout.“ Now running the fourth week and still doing

more business than any other picture on the first night.

„Shaping the present trend“

Editorial content. „The front of the Columbia theatre,

Pittsburgh, Pa., was almost completely concealed by the vast

spread of stock paper, special banners and cutouts

displayed during the showing of The Kid, Charles Chaplin‘s

First National feature. Theatres catering to transient

patronage have found the production especially suited to flash

exploitation, its stimulative influence upon that phase

of theatre thought figuring importantly in shaping the present

trend of exhibitor advertising.“
