Friends Do Talking
Los Angeles, August 3. – Charlie Chaplin, against whom
a divorce action charging cruelty was filed here
yesterday by Mildred Harris Chaplin, had not been found
early today by interviewers who had sought him
since his wife‘s move became known. His attorney declared
he had known nothing of Mrs. Chaplin‘s plan until
he read of it in the newspapers this morning.
,I don‘t know where Mr. Chaplin is,‘ said the attorney,
,but if I did I would not tell you.‘
Friends of Chaplin pointed out that when Mrs. Chaplin
recently gave out an interview telling of her husband‘s
alleged neglect, he had made a general denial of her accusations.
Mrs. Chaplin‘s attorneys said she was in New York.“
