IN SALT LAKE
Screen Comedian Leaves Los Angeles
to Escape Notoriety
Salt Lake, Aug. 9 – Though avoiding publicity and seeking
privacy, to which he claims to have been a stranger
since his wife started divorce proceedings against him, Charley
Chaplin was interviewed at the Hotel Utah last night.
The screen star claims that he has been accorded scant
privacy since Mildred Harris Chaplin started divorce
proceedings against him. He has been in Salt Lake since
Saturday afternoon and registered at the Hotel
Utah as Charles Spencer, his real name.
,Charley‘ said he was planning his latest picture, The Kid,
which bids fair to be the biggest yet produced by the
Chaplin company. Eight months have already been spent
on the picture.
Chaplin, together with his secretary and two cameramen,
are en route to New York.“
