„Uproarious applause“
Editorial content. „Charlie Chaplin Meets
Imitator at Orpheum
Charlie Chaplin met one of his many imitators at the
Orpheum theater last night in his first public appearance since his
arrival in Salt Lake City last Saturday.
It happened when Henry Werner of the Werner & Amoros
trio act was giving his imitation of the famous movie
comedian. He spied Chaplin sitting in one of the theater‘s front
boxes, and after the finish of his Chaplin number walked
over to the box and extended his hand in greeting. The movie
star arose and gave his imitator a hearty handshake.
The sudden appearance of Chaplin standing in the box was
a signal for uproarious applause from the Orpheum
audience, and he was compelled to respond with numerous
bows. Werner, too, had to give several encores before
the audience would permit the act to close.
Nearly 100 Ford automobile dealers from various parts
of the intermountain country the guests of local Ford
dealers last night at a theater party tendered at the Orpheum.
The big party occupied box seats for the vaudeville
performance.“
