Music for Picture
Charlie Chaplin Tuesday dispelled any doubt that he would
release his movie burlesque on European dictators
by signing Meredith Willson to compose the orchestration
and score for the production.
The picture, yet to be named and tentatively titled
„Production No. 6,“ has been nearly completed
for several weeks, but rapid changes in the international
scene had given rise to reports Chaplin would not
release the travesty.

Willson, nationally prominent composer and
conductor, will attend a private showing of the film Wednesday
and start work at once. He estimated that scores
and orchestrations would require six weeks.

„In spite of everything, Charlie Chaplin is going right
ahead with the cutting of his picture. He‘s slated
to do one re-take and maybe the final speech that was held
up to await the turn of the world events.
The comedian hasn‘t even touched the scoring of the
film, associates say.“
The Great Dictator world premiere is in New York Oct. 15, 1940
at the Capitol and Astor Theatres.
Capitol Theatre, 1645 Broadway (at 51st Street), New York.
Astor Theatre, 1531 Broadway (at 45th Street), New York.
