& CHAPLIN SETS „CITY LIGHTS“

      PREMIERE DEC. 31

Hollywood Bureau – Charles Chaplin‘s latest picture

„City Lights“ which has consumed over two years

in making, is to have its world premiere in Los Angeles New

Year‘s eve. The costly silent film will be the first

attraction at the new two million dollar theatre now under

construction on Broadway, between Sixth and

Seventh streets. The house is owned and operated

by Gumbiner Theatre Enterprises and seats

will sell for $10 for the opening.

Chaplin is delaying his proposed trip to Europe to be

present at the premiere of his $1,500,000 silent

film, and he proposes road-showing the production

in twenty-six key cities.

& L. A.S‘ NEWEST HOUSE

      TO OPEN WITH CHAPLIN

Hollywood Bureau. – The Los Angeles Theatre, under

the sole ownership of H. L. Cumbiner, owner of the

Tower Theatre, here, will be opened on or about Jan. 1, on

Broadway, near Sixth street, in the downtown section

of Los Angeles.

The feature attraction will be no less than Charlie

Chaplin‘s „City Lights,“ a silent picture except for synchronized

music.

The theatre seats 2,500 and is done in the French

Renaissance style of architecture.

& But we might give „Bob“ Gumbiner a separate paragraph,

all his own, and wish him every sort of success in his

new venture, not new, by any means, in the type of work

which he will do, but new in locale. Bob has left for

the Coast, (and what a time to leave, just before Old Boreas

is too playful) where he will take up his duties as

general manager of the new Los Angeles theatre in Los

Angeles. We understand that on New Year‘s Eve.

there is to be a long awaited world premiere at his house,

namely „City Lights,“ which Charlie Chaplin has had

on the fire for some time, quite some time. Looks like Bob

is all set for a Happy New Year.
