COSTLY THEATER
The Los Angeles Theater (interior view above), located
on the west side of Broadway near Sixth street, when
it opens next month will represent a total investment in excess
of $2,000,000. With the rental consideration covering
a 50-year period, involving $5,000,000 as an additional sum,
the playhouse will probably be one of the most costly
in America. S. Charles Lee is the architect and Sumner, Sollit
Company general contractors. H. L. Gumbiner,

& NEW THEATER OPENING
TO BE GALA EVENT
THE distinction of being the only house on the local
rialto to feature regular stage shows specially
created for its film attractions will go to the Los Angeles
Theater, which will be opened with a gala
premiere on January 30.
„Special prologues will be featured with every new film
presentation at the Los Angeles,“ according to H. L.
Cumbiner, owner-proprietor.
„Under the direction of Albert E. Short, who for many
years has been prominent in the Eastern field as
stage director for Balaban & Katz, Paramount-Publix and
other theater chains and who has one of the finest
records of any man of his profession,“ says Mr. Cumbiner,
„we expect to evolve some of the most distinctive
prologues ever offered to the Los Angeles theater going
public, with a carefully selected symphonic
orchestra as an additional feature.
„With City Lights, Charlie Chaplin‘s newest stellar vehicle
scheduled for its world premiere coincident with the
opening of the Los Angeles, Mr. Short has already started
rehearsals of the cast of the stage presentation which
will feature its engagement. We are not announcing the nature
of the offering as we wish it to be a surprise, but it will
be entirely in keeping with the beauty and distinctiveness
of our theater.“
