„CITY LIGHTS“ TO SHINE

First photo. Poignant appeal enters Chaplin‘s love scenes

with Virginia Cherrill.

Second photo. Virginia Cherrill as the blind flower girl

whom the tramp befriends.

Third photo. Much to Charlie‘s surprise, he presents the

millionaire, Harry Myers, from committing suicide – and thereby

bangs another tale.

Fourth photo. The ring episode is highly amusing.

AT LAST the long-awaited event is to occur –

„City Lights,“ Charlie Chaplin‘s new comedy, will have its world

premiere at The Los Angeles Theater the night of

January 30. The occasion also marks the opening of Los

Angeles‘ most palatial motion-picture house,

a theater said to be the most modern and the most beautiful

in America. Chaplin has not been seen on the screen

since he made „The Circus,“ more than three years ago, and it is interesting to note that the feature will be devoid of all

dialogue, although sound effects have been utilized in certain sequences. Virginia Cherrill, a newcomer, appears

as his leading lady and Harry Myers takes a prominent role.
