„While he struggled with the tabulation“
Editorial content. „Chaplin Delays Work
To Figure His Income Tax
By GEORGE SHAFFER.
Hollywood, Cal., March 12. – Occasionally Charlie Chaplin
falls prey to a merry mood. A friend, greeting Charlie
on his recovery from his ten days‘ illness, which has threatened
to become critical, asked Charlie:
,What are you doing now?‘
,Haven‘t you heard?‘ the comedian retorted. ,I‘m just
between scandals.‘
Charlie then announced seriously he has temporarily
called off the completion of his picture, City Lights,
while he finishes making out his income tax. Charlie said that
his cast and studio and mechanical staff could wait, but
that Uncle Sam could not, and he figured it more economical
to let the overhead roll on while he struggled with
the tabulation.“
