HOLLYWOOD, June 8. – Some three months having
been used in preparation, Charlie Chaplin has started work on
„City Lights.“ his next picture.
The comedian has thrown a certain amount
of mystery around the film, declining to discuss its theme
and other such important details.
The known facts about „City Lights“ are few. It is to follow
an original idea of Chaplin‘s, the comedian will direct
as well as play the title role and it is to be ready for release
in November.
Should it be ready for the screen on the announced
date, „City Lights“ will form some kind of a speed record for
recent Chaplin productions.

within two weeks. Merna Kennedy and Harry Crocker

by Irving Berlin is being considered by Mr. Chaplin.“
Virginia Cherrill will be the leading woman in City Lights,
not Merna Kennedy.
