NEW YORK, April 9. – William Le Baron will join
the Hollywood colony late this month as vice-president
in charge of production at the F.B.O. studio.“ (...)
„A great deal of gratification is expressed over the election
of Joseph M. Schenck as president of United Artists,
although it has occasioned no surprise as his elevation to this
post was a foregone conclusion with the passing
of Hiram Abrams.
CHARLES PERFORMS
Charles Chaplin was the surprise of the A.M.P.A. dinner
last Saturday night, on which occasion, by the way,
the noticeably small number of stars present was commented
upon. This was due, of course, to last month‘s exodus.
Chaplin not only was present, but he offered a solo pantomime
number on the stage, which, needless to say, was the
artistic hit of the evening and was an oasis in a desert of long
speeches. On Wednesday he appeared in court
to defend a plagiarism suit brought to Leo Loeb, who
alleged that Chaplin incorporated some of his
ideas in Shoulder Arms.“
