& Robinson Is New Chaplin Publicist

Word comes from the Chaplin studio that Carlyle

Robinson has been appointed publicity director.

Robinson returns to the film industry after an absence

of five years. From 1916 to 1922 he was press

agent for Chaplin and, prior to that time, connected with other

film companies.

No mention is made as to what has happened

to Edward Manson, who was filling the publicity

job before Chaplin suspended work on „The Circus“ during

his marital tribulations. When last heard from

Manson was in New York.

Chaplin has resumed work on „The Circus,“

which will be released by United Artists.

& CHARLES CHAPLIN

      By Edward Manson (...)

His current comedy production, „The Circus,“ will

present a peculiar combination of comedy and

drama, a low-brow comedy for the high-brows, and

will be the second Charlie Chaplin comedy

to be released through the United Artists Corporation.

„And now that she is back in God‘s country“

Editorial content. „Charles Chaplin‘s New Comedy,

      ,The Circus,‘ Nearing Finish

      By LOUELLA O. PARSONS,

Motion Picture Editor of Universal Service.

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 6. – If all goes well, The Circus, Charlie Chaplin‘s latest comedy, will be finished in another two

weeks. Then what? Another picture without twenty-four hours

delay. That is what United Artists is asking and that

is what Charlie has agreed to do. He will make The Suicide

Club, a comedy he has had in mind for a long time,

and one that even had a bridge built as a part of its property

several years ago.

And Charlie says the reported rumor that he will make

The Suicide Club abroad is more false than Mark Twain‘s reported death. ,Not a word of truth in story,‘ Charlie says.

,My brother, Sid, visited Rex Ingram‘s studio in Nice and

wrote me that it was possible to produce pictures much

cheaper on the other side, but I have definitely made up my mind

to make my next picture right here in Hollywood.‘

So that‘s that and the end of a perfect rumor that has

been circulating around the last few weeks, wherever movies

are mentioned.

While I am on the subject of the man who made the derby

hat and the trick cane famous, it is interesting to note that

Edna Purviance, his leading lady for some years, is returning

to Los Angeles today.

Miss Purviance went abroad six months ago to make

pictures for a European producing company and

during the time she was in Europe, I believe she was starred

in two pictures, the names of which have not been

made public. She is under contract to Charlie Chaplin, and

now that she is back in God‘s country, it is likely

she will resume work at the Chaplin studios. However, she

reaches town today, when she can speak for herself.“
