When „The Circus,“ Charlie Chaplin‘s latest,

is released, you‘ll see what a charming little thing Merna

Kennedy really is. And she can dance, too.

„One cannot call it an inspired comedy by any means“

Editorial content. „The Circus

Good Fun and Interesting, but Not a Masterpiece

      (Reviewed by Laurence Reid).

SCREEN appearances are pretty rare for Charlie Chaplin.

He‘s been long enough with The Circus to have

accomplished something extraordinary. Whether because

of his domestic trouble or other worries it seems that

the picture is not another masterpiece like Shoulder Arms.

True, it has its fun – oodles of it, and there is imagination

behind it. But taken in its entirety one cannot call it an inspired

comedy by any means.“ (...)

Strand Theatre, 1579 B‘way (at 47th St.), New York.

The Circus is released by United

Artists in New York January 6, 1928.
