The Circus Clippings 33/376

Film Daily, New York, December 22, 1925.

Edna, Lita, Georgia. Three little girls from school who

became Chaplin‘s  leading women. Here‘s the

newest addition to their ranks, Merna Kennedy, eighteen,

and pictorially inexperienced. She will be in

Charlie‘s „The Circus.“

Brothers at a higher figure than she has been getting. (...)

An that very promising girl Georgia Hale, who

played the lead in „The Gold Rush“ opposite Chaplin, had been

signed up by Paramount, and will be featured by them.

Chaplin was really desirous of retaining her as his leading

woman, but as the offer from Paramount meant so

much for Miss Hale‘s future, both in money and opportunity,

he exhibited his good sportsmanship by granting her

a release from her contract with him. Opposite Charlie in his

forthcoming picture, „The Circus,“ will be seen Merna

Kennedy, a newcomer, whom Charlie first discovered in the

Coast production of the musical comedy, „All for You,“

in which she appeared as a cigar-stand girl. Miss Kennedy

is unlike either Edna Purviance or Georgia Hale.

She has auburn hair and dark eyes, and is decidedly

an animated type.

Charles Chaplin‘s new leading woman, Merna Kennedy,

makes her bow in his new comedy, „The Circus,“ without previous film experience.

& Georgia Hale – that same „Georgia“ who

jumped from extra girl to leading woman for Charles Chaplin

in a few weeks or months is about to begin her

first picture with Lasky‘s.

Ever since Miss Hale signed with the Vine street studio

officials there have been looking for a really dramatic

role for her. Now they think they have it in Gerald Beaumont‘s

„The Rainmaker.“ The girl‘s part is said to be strong,

and well adapted to Miss Hale‘s personality.

There is no official announcement as to the male lead. In fact guessing was discouraged, and when I suggested William

Collier Jr. as especially eligible for the part I got nothing but continued declarations that „the role hasn‘t yet been cast.“

(...) „Filmettes“ By Florence Lawrence, San Francisco Herald,

San Francisco, California, Dec. 24, 1925

& Mrs. M. E. Kennedy and daughter, Miss Myrna Kennedy

of Los Angeles, were visitors this week to the Orange

Show, the latter having a reunion with her school friend, Miss

Juliet Frances Weir. Miss Kennedy is now enrolled

among the film folks, and reports that she is to have a leading

part in the next Chaplin film, „The Circus.“ The Kennedys

formerly lived at Base Line and D Street, moving to Los Angeles

four years ago.

(...) San Bernardino County Sun, S. B., Cal., Feb. 27, 1926

& GEORGIA HALE, who was discovered by Chaplin

and given the lead in his picture, „The Gold Rush,“ has just

been signed to a contract by Famous-Lasky Company.

So Charlie has a new leading lady, named Myrna Kennedy,

who will be seen in his next comedy, „The Circus.“ Miss

Kennedy has never appeared in pictures before, having been discovered by Chaplin in a Los Angeles stage play.
