FIRE IN CHAPLIN STUDIO – This picture was
taken as Charlie Chaplin was watching the fire-fighters
who were extinguishing the flames which destroyed a portion
of his Hollywood studio. Chaplin‘s life and that of his
leading lady were endangered. The fire was started, it is believed,
by a short circuit. The famous comedian is reported
to have remarked that this was one scene that was not written
in the scenario.

„Chaplin had no plan to do Napoleon“
Editorial content. „EXITS AND ENTRANCES
Charlie Chaplin‘s The Circus will not be released until
after the first of the year, Edward Manson, his publicity
director, writes. It seems that while the fire at the Chaplin studio
caused no damage that was covered by insurance,
it did destroy equipment and paraphernalia that will take some
time to replace.

Meanwhile the wires report announcement in London
that Chaplin is to do Napoleon and then retire; and
denial from the Chaplin studios of this statement. As a matter
of fact we were told recently in Hollywood that Chaplin
had no plan to do Napoleon either with or without Raquel Meller.
And there the matter rests.“
