Gold Rush Breaks Records of 17 Years

„Charlie Chaplin‘s The Gold Rush broke all records since

this house was opened seventeen years ago,“

telegraphed Aaron Jones, of Jones, Linick and Schaeffer,

to Hiram Abrams, president of United Artists

Corporation, when this new Chaplin dramatic comedy

opened at the Orpheum theatre, Chicago.

      TO want to go to any show four times, especially a screen

entertainment, is at least something in its favor, but

to be able to enjoy that picture as much, if not more, the fourth

time speaks still louder in the film‘s praise.“ (...)

      „If you find that you expected something more brusque,

something more hilarious than this picture, go to it a

second time, and perhaps you will come away looking forward

to seeing it again. We count looking at this production

on of the compensations for having to view so many unworthy

photoplays.“
