Editorial content. „Chaplin Divorce Reaches Court
Los Angeles, Aug. 3. – (United Press.) – Movie fandom
crowded the courtroom of Superior Judge John W.
Shenk here today for the staging of the first skirmish in the
suit for divorce against Charles Chaplin, world‘s
premier screen comedian, brought by Mrs. Mildred Harris
Chaplin, his actress wife.
Application of Mrs. Chaplin‘s attorneys to have made
permanent a temporary order restraining Chaplin
from disposing of his property pending hearing of the divorce
suit was considered the first step in what promises
to be a sharply contested legal battle.
Involved in the action are motion picture films said
to be worth millions of dollars and declared by Mrs.
Chaplin to be community property. Chief among these is The
Kid, Chaplin‘s latest picture and worth more
than $1,000,000, according to local producers.“ (...)
