& Charlie Chaplin insists that he wants to keep the story

of „Modern Times“ and the gags in this flicker

a secret. He has been afraid that he would see them in other

pictures before his is released. Yet, Chaplin keeps

inviting writer friends into the projection room to see the flicker,

and there have been more articles in magazines

telling about „Modern Times“ than any other flicker this

season. One of the better gags in the flicker

concerns Chaplin‘s efforts to get himself arrested. He makes

many efforts, but can‘t. Then he sees a large plate

glass window. He picks up a brick and waits for the policeman

to approach. Then Chaplin hurls the brick through

the window. The policeman walks by, not disturbing Chaplin.

As the cop walks by, the sign „House Wrecking Crew

at Work“ is seen.
