Modern Times Scenes
& One of the events of the autumn should be the
appearance of the one and only (and still silent) Charlie
Chaplin in „Modern Times“ – with Paulette Goddard

& Charlie Chaplin insists that he wants to keep the story
of „Modern Times“ and the gags in this flicker
a secret. He has been afraid that he would see them in other
pictures before his is released. Yet, Chaplin keeps
inviting writer friends into the projection room to see the flicker,
and there have been more articles in magazines
telling about „Modern Times“ than any other flicker this
season. One of the better gags in the flicker
concerns Chaplin‘s efforts to get himself arrested. He makes
many efforts, but can‘t. Then he sees a large plate
glass window. He picks up a brick and waits for the policeman
to approach. Then Chaplin hurls the brick through
the window. The policeman walks by, not disturbing Chaplin.
As the cop walks by, the sign „House Wrecking Crew
at Work“ is seen.
