      Defying the laws of conventional progress Charlie Chaplin

once more came into his own as a king of comedy last

night at Grauman‘s Chinese Theater. Modern Times, his first

picture in five years, drew the laughter of a throng such

as has been seen at only one other premiere during the present

season, namely Midsummer Night‘s Dream, and even

surpassed that. Indeed, it was all a renewal of the golden days

of initial screen showings in Hollywood, when glamour

reigned.“ (...)

      „MACHINERY DRAMATIZED

      Mostly Chaplin has dramatized machinery in the picture.

He attains the height of effect when he offers to your

view the feeding apparatus with himself as the subject of the

experiment in feeding. The mad behavior of the device

is an unsurpassed stimulus for merriment. The comedian has

here recaptured and recrystallized all the best of his
