& Chaplin Tells Friend He Would Go Serious
Brisbane, April 1.
Charles Chaplin when in Singapore expressed
his intention of quitting comedy and going into drama.
Chaplin is reported as saying that Charlie
Chaplin, the silent comedian, no longer existed. He realized
that, after 25 years as a funster, it might be hard
to make a switch to drama, but nevertheless he was
looking for a dramatic role.
If he (Chaplin) could find a suitable characterization
he might be prepared to make talkers and play a full talking
role, he said.

„He‘s a vestige of the silent days“
Editorial content. „CHAPLIN TO END
HIS TRAMP ROLE
Charles Chaplin told reporters in San Francisco
last week that he intended to abandon the tramp roles which
established his fame internationally. ,I shall probably
veer away from my tramp role some day,‘ the comedian said,
,I just can‘t get around to making him talk. He‘s a vestige
of the silent days.‘
Mr. Chaplin said he planned to produce at least two
features a year in the future.“
