top, according to present plans of United Artists. Chaplin

      Broadway Premiere Feb. 1

      Silent vs. talker is the battle to be staged on Broadway

starting Feb. 1, when Charlie Chaplin‘s „City Lights,“

synchronized, opens for a run at the George M. Cohan.

The picture has been in the making for more than

two years and its negative cost is reported at $1,400,000.

      Chaplin has stated that the film will be offered

to the highest bidder in various situations and regardless

of affiliations.

      Opens in New York Feb. 1 (...)

      City Lights, Charlie Chaplin‘s first picture since

the silent days, will have its world premiere at the George M.

Cohan theatre here February 1.

      Chaplin has deferred a European trip to be present

at the opening. The film has been nearly two years in the making

and is said to have cost $1,400,000. It has sound effects,

but no dialog.

& Charlie Chaplin‘s „City Lights“ will

open at the George M. Cohan theatre Friday night, Feb. 6,

at $10 top prices. The mezzanine will be sold

at $5 per seat and the balcony at $2.

      Saturday, however, continuous performances start at

popular prices, which will prevail throughout the run.

      Chaplin is due in New York Jan. 22. He‘ll be present at

the Cohan premiere.

      You know, of course, that „City Lights“ is a non-dialogue

film which was written, directed and starred by Charlie.

His supporting cast includes Virginia Cherrill, Harry Myers,

Allan Garcia, Hank Mann and Florence Lee.

Editorial content. „YE TOWN journalists were all aflutter

the other day on being invited to a Christmas showing at the Little Picture House... (...) Ye old fashioned Charlie Chaplin

who thinks the Talkies are the Bunk, hath prepared his non-dialog

film at last for Public Showing... and with several million

dollars of advance bookings for City Lights, it may well be that

Charlie is not so dumb as the non-talking cast...“

     The world premiere of City Lights takes place in Los Angeles

      January 30, 1931 at the Los Angeles Theatre.
